Financial Controller

Alderley Group is an award-winning, rapidly expanding UK development company specialising in sourcing land for new-build affordable housing schemes. Our in-house construction team, Alderley Partnerships, operates under JCT D&B contracts, delivering high-quality projects across England. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Financial Controller to join our team, based in our Head Office in London.
About the Role:
As a Financial Controller, you will manage the financial operations of the company, ensuring that all financial activities are conducted with accuracy, compliance, and strategic foresight. You will collaborate closely with the executive team, providing crucial financial insights and overseeing all financial control activities. Your role will be key in maintaining the financial health and integrity of the organisation as we continue to grow and expand our portfolio of developments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Compliance: Ensure that the organisation meets all necessary tax, permit, and licensing requirements. Liaise with external tax accountants for tax preparation or manage tax duties internally as required.
- Process Improvement: Collaborate with the executive team to establish more effective processes and controls, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the company’s financial ledger.
- Financial Oversight: Oversee all financial control activities, including the review and analysis of monthly and quarterly financial numbers and disclosures. Ensure that financial operations align with the company’s goals and regulatory requirements.
- Executive Reporting: Provide executive management with accurate and comprehensive financial information to guide effective policymaking and financial strategising. Summarise budget trends, analyse deficiencies, and report variances to executives to inform decision-making.
- Audit Coordination: Coordinate with external auditors, providing the necessary documentation and support to facilitate smooth and accurate audits.
What You’ll Need:
- Qualifications: Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with substantial experience as a Financial Controller, preferably within the construction or property development industry.
- Financial Expertise: Extensive knowledge of financial management, compliance, and control practices, with the ability to oversee complex financial operations and ensure accuracy in reporting.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to summarise budget trends, identify deficiencies, and provide actionable insights to the executive team.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with individuals at all levels, influence decisions, and promote financial best practices across the organisation.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in IT skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and document control systems. Fluency in Xero accounting and Xero Payroll is essential.
