We are excited to officially announce our partnership with Together Housing for the development of 30 affordable homes on Mary Street, Rishton. This collaboration represents a significant step in Alderley Group’s mission to deliver high-quality, affordable housing to communities across the North West. Together Housing, a leading provider of affordable homes, will work alongside Alderley Group and our in-house construction division – Alderley Partnerships – to bring this new development to life, ensuring that it meets the needs of the local community while maintaining the highest standards of quality and sustainability.
Set to begin construction in January 2025, the Mary Street development will feature 16 two-bedroom houses and 14 three-bedroom houses, providing much-needed affordable homes in a desirable and well-connected location. The project reflects our shared commitment with Together Housing to delivering housing that is not only accessible but also designed to enhance community living and promote environmental sustainability. Completion is expected in 2026, with the homes offering private gardens and two car parking spaces per dwelling.
The site, located at the southern end of Mary Street, previously housed the Albert Mill industrial complex before its demolition in 2014. The land has remained vacant since then, presenting a prime opportunity to revitalise the area with affordable homes that cater to the needs of individuals and families. Positioned in a predominantly residential area, the development benefits from its proximity to local amenities, including health, leisure, and retail facilities in the nearby town centre.
Kevin Corish, CEO of Alderley Group, commented on the partnership: “We are thrilled to be working with Together Housing on the Mary Street development, marking the first of many projects we aim to deliver together. This partnership underscores our dedication to providing affordable housing solutions to communities in need. Our shared values align perfectly, and we look forward to delivering high-quality homes to the people of Rishton.”
The design of the homes will complement the surrounding architecture while offering modern, energy-efficient living spaces. The development’s key objectives are to respect the local character, ensure safety, and create a sense of community with ample green spaces, passive surveillance, and defensible spaces for each dwelling. The scheme includes large windows to provide ample daylight, creating bright and welcoming living environments for future residents.
Dai Howells, Assistant Director of Property of Together Housing said: “This exciting partnership with the Alderly Group provides a fantastic opportunity for Together Housing to expand on the number of affordable homes available in Rishton. Together, with the Alderly Group, we are keen to build properties of high quality that will allow people to set up roots in their local town and make these houses into their homes.”
Hyndburn Council, in support of the development, noted that the project “presents an opportunity to deliver high-quality affordable houses on a brownfield site in a highly sustainable location. This will enhance the local area while addressing the ongoing need for affordable housing.”
We are excited about the future of the Mary Street project and proud to partner with Together Housing to deliver this vital development. It is another milestone in Alderley Group’s journey of creating thriving, sustainable communities through affordable housing developments.
This project is being part-funded by Homes England.
